Lupe Sturgeon

Guadalupe Aguirre Sturgeon, AKA: Grandma Sturgeon, Little Grandma, Grandma, Lupe, Mom, Grandpa’s “Hon-neh” and my favorite, Hot Rod Momma, died peacefully surrounded by her family, on February 8, 2022.

Lupe is survived by her daughter, Rosa Sanchez and many grand and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband William “Wild Bill” Sturgeon, her beloved husband; Ermila Sturgeon her daughter and William “Jr.” Sturgeon her son.

Lupe was born in 1937, in the little town of Hondo, Texas, but spent most of her life in Idaho Falls. At the age of 15, she met “Wild Bill” while working the sugar beet fields. It took no time for her to tame him, and 3 short weeks later they were married. Over the next 5 years they would grow their family, welcoming 3 children, Ermila, William Jr., and Rosa.

Lupe was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed making quilts, crocheting, watching black and white movies, all things Elvis and watching WWF Wrestling. Most of us knew her as the Chancla wearing, left hook packing, grandma who hugged the air out of you; always having the brightest smile and deepest laugh. The following words are everything Grandma was to the core.

“You know who you are on the inside. Don’t let others dim that light because of their own pain. Keep shining. Let anger and judgement go. Allow yourself to forgive. Not to relieve others, but to relieve yourself. Be happy, be joyful, be the light. Be all the things that is love. But most importantly, allow yourself to live and have fun.”

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 18, 2022, at Holy Rosary Church, 905 South Lee. The family will visit with friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge, prior to the service.
