Lula Meikle

Lula Griffin Meikle, 90, of Idaho Falls, passed away February 10, 2017, at the home of her daughter in Iona, Idaho. She was born June 9,1926, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Jess and Electa Griffin. She grew up in Rexburg and graduated from Madison High School. On April 11,1944, she married Emery Meikle in the Logan Utah LDS Temple. Lula and Emery farmed in the Osgood Area for 37 years, after which they retired to Shelley, Idaho. When Emery passed away she moved to Idaho Falls where she lived for the past 9 years. Lula enjoyed serving others and had unconditional love for everyone. During her life she had many hobbies and talents, some of which were, designing and sewing dresses, playing the piano and harmonica by ear, making family history books and doing genealogy. As a teenager she loved to ice skate. Friends and neighbors would park by the Rexburg School to watch her skate. Lula was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and faithfully served in many callings. One of her favorite callings was in the Primary Nursery. Lula is preceded in death by the love of her life, Emery Meikle, and a granddaughter, Annie Lee Reese. She is survived by her five children, Brenda Thorpe (Tom) of Ogden Utah; Doug Meikle of Idaho Falls Idaho; Ida Ryan (Kim) of lona Idaho; Colleen Albiston (Dave) of Lehi Utah; Shirley Reese (Dave) of Idaho Falls Idaho; one sister, Dixie Allred (Darwin) of Logan Utah; one brother, Wayne Griffin (Delilah) of Jameston, Idaho; 17 grandchildren; and 37 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 18th, at the Ammon LDS 2nd Ward, 1100 South Tiebreaker, Ammon, Idaho, with Bishop Lorin McArthur officiating. A viewing will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Ave., and from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Interment will be at the Annis-Little Butte Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Encompass Hospice, 3686 Washington Parkway, Idaho Falls, Idaho 83404.
