Lula Mae “Girlie” Addy Campbell, 94, of Idaho Falls, formerly of Case Grande, Arizona, passed away Saturday, January 14, 2012, at Good Samaritan Society of Idaho Falls Village. She was born April 18, 1917, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Isaiah Samuel Addy and Hattie Belle Wright Addy. She grew up and attended schools in Chandler, Arizona. Lula was a PBX phone operator at Williams Air Force Base in Mesa, Arizona. It was while working there that she met her husband, Bruce Campbell. They were married on July 4, 1956, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the Wee Kirk O’ the Heather Wedding Chapel. Together they raised two daughters. She also had a son, Burton Payne, from a previous marriage, who preceded her in death January 18, 1990. During her life, she lived in Arizona, California, South Dakota, and moved to Idaho six years ago to be closer to family. Lula was a member of the Assemblies of God Church and played the piano and accordion for them. She directed Women’s Ministries in California and South Dakota. Lula was honored within her church community for working with women. Lula was an avid gardener and loved her roses, as well as sewing, playing card games, square dancing, entertaining friends, and making tamales and enchiladas. She also loved listening to music and watching musicals. Survivors include: Husband: Bruce J. Campbell of Idaho Falls, ID; Daughter: Brenda (Robert) Kakehashi of Encenitas, CA; Daughter: Betsy (Keith) Presley of Thermopolis, WY; 9 Grandchildren; 7 Great Grandchildren with one on the way; 5 Great-great Grandchildren; Brother: Noel (Pat) Addy of Tucson, AZ; and her Sister: Nelly Watson of Simi Valley, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Burton Payne; brothers, Charlie, Robert, Freddie, and Oscar; her sisters, Beulah and Cora Lee; and her granddaughter, Sarah Muntifering. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, with Reverend M. Keith Presley of the Thermopolis, Wyoming, Living Waters Assembly of God Church officiating. The family will visit with friends for one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Arizona at a later date.
