LOWELL BARBER IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Lowell Dee Barber, 87, died June 6, 2007, following a brief illness in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was born March 12, 1920, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Emil Arthur Barber and Marie Anna Ronnenkamp Barber. His youth was spent in the Moreland and Rexburg areas. He resided in Idaho Falls the majority of his life. Lowell married Mary Phyllis Fullmer on the eve of World War II, October 11, 1941, in her home in Salem, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple on May 18, 1944. Ten days after their wedding, Lowell left for military service, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a radar operator in the Phillipine Islands during World War II. He returned home and was honorably discharged in January 1945. His civilian career was spent as a security officer for INL, retiring in 1981. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings and capacities. He and his beloved wife served as full-time missionaries in West Virginia and at the Idaho Falls Temple Visitor's Center. He loved to hunt and fish, work in his garden and yard and to play games with family and friends. He was an excellent carpenter, mechanic and auto body repairman. Family was always foremost to him and he was a devoted son, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Mary Phyllis Fullmer Barber; a daughter, Sherrie D. (Larry) Quinn of St. Helen's, Oregon; two sons, Greg F. (Carol) of Spanish Fork, Utah, and Layne L. (Tamara) of Ammon, Idaho; two sisters, Lucille (Jack) Baker of Denver, Colorado, and Marie (Dyal) Stone of Kaysville, Utah; and two brothers, Karl (Maxine) of Idaho Falls, ID and Kenneth (Joanne) of Pullman, Washington, 16 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cathy; two great grandchildren; his parents; three brothers, Lewis, Dellis and Eldon; and a sister, Ruby (Virgil) Hancock. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2007, at the Idaho Falls LDS 15th Ward, 2051 S. Emerson, with Bishop Steven Parry officiating. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Sugar City Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
