Our dear mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Louise June Hammer Blacker, passed away peacefully of natural causes December 13, 2013, in Orem, Utah. She was born January 9, 1926, to Walter Hammer and Lenore Price Hammer in Woodville, Idaho. She was the oldest of four children. Mom attended high school in Shelley, Idaho, where she played the flute and graduated in 1944 as Salutatorian. That same year her family moved to Osgood, Idaho, a small farming community eight miles west of Idaho Falls, where her parents purchased a small mercantile store. In the fall of 1944 she left to attend Albion Normal School south of Burley, Idaho. There she met and dated George Blacker from Rupert, Idaho. They were married July 12, 1945, in the Logan Utah LDS Temple. They lived eight years in Rupert before moving to Osgood to purchase the mercantile store from her mother, and become entrepreneurs. They owned and worked the Osgood Store for 35 wonderful years. They were part of the hub of the community where many shopped and visited and many lasting memories were made. Mom loved life and never complained. She loved to bottle and freeze vegetables from her garden. She crocheted and embroidered pillowcases and dish towels. She loved to sew and cook. Yellowstone and Island Park were favorite places to camp and visit. Louise had great business sense as she helped run and manage their mercantile store which sat next to their home. At the same time she was a wonderful homemaker and mother. Mom was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. She was best known for the many genealogy classes she taught. She loved being the ward sports director and coaching her daughters. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who would do absolutely anything for her family. As her health failed, Mom spent the past seven years at Summerfield Assisted Living Center in Orem, Utah. Everyone adored her there as she never complained and was always kind. They called her "a real trooper." Mom's favorite saying was "old age isn't for sissies!" Mom is survived by her brother, Mike Hammer, and her four children, Carol (Adrian) Fredericks, Ron (Marilyn) Blacker, Wanda Blacker, Corrine (Cory) Lindorff, 9 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 9 great- great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Wanda, and infant brother, Richard. Funeral Services will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, December 21, 2013, the Idaho Falls LDS Taylor Crossing Ward, 2040 Brentwood Drive, with a viewing prior from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Becky Nelson and the other workers at Summerfield Assisted Living Center in Orem for their devotion in caring for Mom. .
