Louis Anderson Gunerud, 89, of Idaho Falls, passed away April 27, 2024, at Life Care Center of Idaho Falls. He was under the care of his loving family and Enhabit Hospice.
Lou was born January 15,1935 in Scobey, Montana, to Lawrence Gunerud and Pearl Gunerud. He graduated in 1953 from Sprague High School in Sprague, Washington. Lou joined the Navy and served during the Korean War.
After serving in the Navy, he married Carol Poole and they had three daughters. They later divorced. On March 23,1968, he married Coy Jean Fielding. Lou and Coy made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where Lou worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory. They had two daughters and a son.
Lou had a big heart and loved his family dearly. He was honest, supportive, and hardworking throughout his life. He enjoyed traveling with his family, classic country music, and classic cars.
Lou was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Kevin Brent Fox.
Lou is survived by his wife of 56 years, Coy Gunerud of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter Cindy (Terry) Niederer; daughter Kelly (Keith) Miles; daughter Tawna (Steve) Moore; daughter Holly (Darrell) Holm; son Patrick (Jamie) Gunerud; all of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and daughter Candy (Frank) Eubank of Pleasant Grove, Utah; and his precious grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, Ammon, Idaho. The family will visit friends and family Thursday from 6:30-8:00 p.m. and from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services, both visitations at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Shelley.
