LORRAINE OWENS
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Lorraine Jensen Owens, 86, of Idaho Falls, went to meet her "Gene" on Sunday, February 5, 2006. She resided at the Gables of Ammon and was under their care with Aspen Hospice.
She was born August 20, 1919, in Shelley, Idaho, to Jens Christen Martin Enjer Jensen and Albertina Albertson Robertson Jensen, the youngest of ten children. She grew up and attended school in Shelley, graduating from Shelley High School.
She married Eugene D. "Gene" Owens October 19, 1939, in Jameston, Idaho. They dated for four years, then eloped after the Shelley Spud Days dance. She was a homemaker, wife, mother, and friend to all who knew her. She worked side by side with her husband, farming in the Shelley-New Sweden area until 1962, when they moved to the Lemhi Valley. They ranched for 23 years and loved the Lemhi Valley. They retired in 1985 and became "snowbirds." They traveled for twelve years. Their favorite place was Overton, Nevada, in winter, Island Park and Iona, Idaho, in the summer. Eugene died March 26, 2000.
She was member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was very active in genealogy. Her hobbies were writing poetry and stories, which are now in a book, "Sharing My Thoughts: A Legacy of Love and Family History." She was very talented and funny. She enjoyed working with the Riverdale Grange, PTA and the Posse Auxiliary. During her years in the Salmon area she worked as the Salmon River Branch Geneaology Librarian.
She is survived by three children, Carolyn Jean (Jack) Messenger of Iona, Steven Brent (Cindy) Owens of Island Park and Rigby, ID, and Ronald Kent (Joanie) Owens of Elko, NV; 8 Grandchildren and 24 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters, and six brothers.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2006, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge, Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends for one hour prior to the services at Wood Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Iona Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
