Lon Scott Huls

Lon Scott Huls, 72, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away peacefully at his home on June 30, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife and their six children.

Lon was born on September 9, 1951, in American Falls, Idaho, to William “Bill” and Fay Huls. He grew up on a small farm in Aberdeen, Idaho, attended school there, and ultimately graduated from Aberdeen High in 1969.

After high school, he attended and graduated from Ricks College. While there, he met his sweetheart, Kathryn Wadsworth, and they were sealed for time and eternity in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on January 8, 1971. Upon graduation, Lon began his career working for Pacific Finance. He and Kathy remained in Eastern Idaho where they started their family. After a couple of years working in finance, Lon started working construction for several local companies. In 1987, he established his own successful general contracting business, Lon S. Huls Construction. The majority of his work included beautiful remodels of LDS church facilities, including meetinghouses, and the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

Lon loved his family, including his father-in-law, Vaughn, who instilled in him a love of hunting, fishing, mechanics, and antique cars. He loved to work with his hands, especially woodworking. He could figure out and fix almost anything and used that talent to serve those around him.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was dedicated to his family, faith, and work. He served for his church in various capacities including: Home Teacher, Bishop, Stake President, and Temple Sealer. Lon and Kathy also served together as missionaries in the South Africa, Durban mission.

Of all the many accomplishments in his life, he has always considered and responded that his children were his very greatest.

Lon is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Huls; son, Christopher Scott (Lesley) Huls of Ammon, ID; son, Patrick Shaun (Jennifer) Huls of Saratoga Springs, UT; daughter, Natalie Faye (John) Burtenshaw of Ammon, ID; son, Joshua Lon (Jenny) Huls of Shelley, ID; Lacie K (Jared) Dumas of Clovis, NM; and Katie Elizabeth (Jeremy) Call of Orem, UT; brother, Thomas William (Nancy) Huls of Pocatello, ID; brother, Ted “J” (Carole) Huls of Yakima, WA; sister, Bavia Beth (Steve) Gibson of Rupert, ID; and 22 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Fay Huls; sister, Mona Rhudy; sister-in-law, Pamela (Terry) Huls; father-in-law, Vaughn Arnold Wadsworth; and mother-in-law, Nina Norton Wadsworth.
