LOLA COOK Click here to view a video tribute of Lola's life RIGBY, ID -- Lola Shirley Cook, 86, of Idaho Falls, passed away November 24, 2009, at the home of her daughter in Rigby. She was under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice. She was born November 21, 1923, in Salem, Idaho, to Frederick Amos Shirley and Clara Worlton Shirley. She grew up and attended schools in the area, graduating from Sugar-Salem High School. She continued her education by attending Ricks Academy and received her Associate Degree in Education. She taught school before she was married. On June 15, 1945, she married David Ford Cook in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They made their home in Milo where they farmed for 50 years. Her husband preceded her in death on December 30, 1995. She was a devoted mother and homemaker. Later, she volunteered at the schools and helped teach reading. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including Ward and Stake Relief Society President, Primary President, and Young Women’s President. In addition, she served in numerous teaching positions, as choir director for the Singing Mothers, and as a missionary at the Salt Lake Family History Center. Lola enjoyed sewing, reading, gardening, family history, and music. She was a special Grandma who loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors are: Daughter: Beverly (Glade) Peterson, Rigby, ID Daughter: Shirleen (Terry) Preslar, Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: Kathy (Rockey) Huskey, Idaho Falls, ID Son: Bryan (Bonnie) Cook, Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: JoAnn (Camille) Cook, Pocatello, ID Brother: Gordon Shirley, Sugar City, ID Brother: Jim Shirley, Rexburg, ID Brother: Val Shirley, UT Sister: Afton Teeples, Rexburg, ID Sister: Carol Parkinson, Plano, ID Sister: Kaye Brown, Idaho Falls, ID 22 Grandchildren and 24 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a sister, Audrey. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 28, 2009, at the Milo LDS Church, 12127 North 75 East, with Bishop Bryan Cook of the Ammon LDS Foothill Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church.
