Lois Empey Shelton, 91, of Idaho Falls, passed away March 24, 2017, at her home, with her family by her side. Lois was born January 23, 1926, the daughter of Alonzo Ernest Empey and Olive Mitchell Empey. She was the youngest of nine children. She grew up in Ammon, where she graduated from Ammon High School. Lois met Lee Shelton while they were in high school, when she was 15 years old. After they both graduated at age 18, they drove by themselves to Salt Lake City, Utah, and were married in the Salt Lake Temple on November 17, 1944. They have been married for 72+ years. From this marriage came three sons, David, Steven, and Michael. After Lee returned from service in World War II, they settled in Osgood and Lois became a farmer’s wife. She said she learned to cook and sew, drive truck, make bread, and all the many other things a farmer’s wife has to do. Together they raised crops and boys. They were always active in their church and in their community. Lois loved the dances that were held in Osgood and Lee went along because he loved Lois. Lois was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her most favorite callings in the church were with the children, both in Primary and Sunday School. She loved the Primary songs. Lois’s greatest love was for her family. She loved her husband, her sons, her daughters-in-law, her seven grandchildren, her nineteen great grandchildren, and her three great great grandchildren. They were all perfect in her eyes. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, seven of her brothers and sisters, Norma Faust, Twila Suitter, Leah Molen, Rulon Empey, Worth Empey, Sheldon Empey, and Melvin Empey, and her beloved son, Michael. Her reunion with all of them must be wonderful! She is survived by her husband, Lee, a son, David (Leslie) Shelton, a son, Steven (Marlys) Shelton, as well as one brother, Ferron Empey, and all of her wonderful grandchildren. We give our heartfelt thanks to The Hospice of Eastern Idaho for the gentle care you gave to our sweet wife and mother, and for your gracious time spent with our family. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 31, 2017, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, with Bishop Jason Skillings of the Idaho Falls LDS 24th Ward officiating. The family will meet with friends and family from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Friday at Wood East Side. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
