Lois Elaine Herd Hoffman-Mack, 94, of Idaho Falls, passed away Friday, August 23, 2024, peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family.
Lois was born on August 5, 1930, in Pocatello, Idaho, to loving parents, Clarence Knowles Herd and Mary Elmyrta Ames Herd. Lois grew up in Ogden, Utah and Pocatello, Idaho, then moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho. She had four brothers and three sisters. Lois was the baby of the family.
Lois’s journey found her falling in love with her Jr. High School sweetheart and wonderful man, Jack R. “Bud” Hoffman. These two married right after graduation from high school. Soon their lives were very full and busy, and they were blessed with four children, Vicki, Debra, Kevin, and Gary. Lois had a long career and retired from Del Monte Foods Incorporated as office manager. Jack’s life was ended too soon in 1988, at 60 years. Lois was able to carry on and bless our family even with the massive trials.
Lois found love again. His name was Gerald Mack, and they were married on November 19, 1990. These two traveled extensively to all of Europe, France, Italy, Canada, Alaska, and also many states. Gerald died at the age of 101 in 2011.
Lois loves her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She always spent quality time with all of them.
Lois had an addiction to garden tomatoes, she couldn’t pass one up. Always asking for us to bring them to her. Lois was a reader and an oil painter. She never grew tired of coloring books. She loved to sew and so much more. She loved to entertain guests at her home, all were welcome, and no one was a stranger for very long.
Lois centered her life around God and lived the commandments to the best of her ability. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a Daughter of the Utah Pioneers. Much service she gave in her many callings. Mom loved her 10-year mission working at the Humanitarian Center in Idaho Falls. Loved all and was loved by all. She loved the center and being a part of something bigger for goodness. She felt blessed to help those who needed lifted up by the service she gave.
Lois is survived by her sons, Kevin (Jennifer) Hoffman of Idaho Falls, ID and Gary (Linda) Hoffman of Rigby, ID; sons-in-law, James Tibbits of Rigby, ID and Doyce (Melissa) Stracener of Independence, MO; 17 grandchildren and a pride of great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by both husbands; her two daughters; her parents; and her siblings.
The circle of family love will never be broken and we will always feel the bond of this beautiful mother, friend, sister, and daughter.
