<p><span style="font-family: georgia,palatino; font-size: 16px;" data-mce-style="font-family: georgia,palatino; font-size: 16px;"><span size="4"><span lang="EN-GB">Lois N. Herbst, 92, of Idaho Falls, passed away September 7, 2017, at her home. She was under the loving care of her daughter, Perlene, and her partner, Dave Allen, assisted by Hospice of Eastern Idaho.<br /><br /></span></span>Lois was born December 21, 1924, in Iona, Idaho. She was the oldest of seven children, six girls and one boy, born to Thoralf and Nora Pugmire Winther. She grew up on a ranch and dry farm in Dehlin, Idaho, where she also attended school. Grades one through eight were taught in a one-room school. Lois was an excellent student. She was a very dependable and hard worker. Being the oldest of the family, she had many responsibilities. Lois was always ready to help her dad with the livestock and the other farming and ranching duties. She was a great help in every way, helping her mother with the younger children.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: georgia,palatino; font-size: 16px;" data-mce-style="font-family: georgia,palatino; font-size: 16px;">When Lois grew up, she worked in various places in Idaho Falls. While working at a small café, she met her future husband, Arlen Jack Hampton. They were married July 7, 1944, in Idaho Falls. They were blessed with three girls, Jalene, Arlene and Perlene. They were later divorced. Jack passed away June 26, 2009.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: georgia,palatino; font-size: 16px;" data-mce-style="font-family: georgia,palatino; font-size: 16px;">Lois was an excellent cook and homemaker. Her home was always neat and tidy, and she welcomed all who stopped in.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: georgia,palatino; font-size: 16px;" data-mce-style="font-family: georgia,palatino; font-size: 16px;">Lois loved to dance. It was at a dance that she met Vernon Herbst. They continued to date and attended many dances. They were married September 9, 1986, in Pleasant Grove, Utah. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Vernon passed away February 18, 2008.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: georgia,palatino; font-size: 16px;" data-mce-style="font-family: georgia,palatino; font-size: 16px;">Lois was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a very kind and gentle nature. Even though she endured many hardships in life, she always tried to look on the bright side. She had a deep love for the Savior and will be missed by many.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: georgia,palatino; font-size: 16px;" data-mce-style="font-family: georgia,palatino; font-size: 16px;">Lois is survived by her two daughters, Arlene (Roger) Wright and Perlene Walters; brother, Harold Winther of Iona; two sisters, Beverly (Dale) Clayton of Idaho Falls and Noreen Wiesenberger of Moreland. She has seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: georgia,palatino; font-size: 16px;" data-mce-style="font-family: georgia,palatino; font-size: 16px;">She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jalene (Rodger) Gough; granddaughter, Becky (Jim) Dufur; both husbands; parents; and three sisters, Bernice Dumont, Leona Johnson and Sharon Johnson.</span><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-family: georgia,palatino; font-size: 16px;" data-mce-style="font-family: georgia,palatino; font-size: 16px;">Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, with Bishop Travis Bennet of the Ucon Yellowstone Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.</span></p>
