Click Here To View Memorial Video On a beautiful Sunday afternoon Steven Lloyd Petersen "graduated with honors," peacefully stepping forward into his next adventure. Lloyd was born January 1, 1932, in Acequia, Idaho, to Steven and Juliana Casper Petersen. He passed away September 20, 2015, at his home in Idaho Falls, Idaho. As a young boy he grew up in Lewisville, Idaho, learning to love fishing, hunting, athletics (watching), and all things scientific. He had a keen mind and loved to learn, graduating from Rigby High School in 1950. He immediately joined the National Guard and on the day he returned from training camp the Korean War began. On August 25, 1950, he joined the United States Army, serving in Korea until January 1, 1952. Following his military service he attended Brigham Young University for one semester, where he met the love of his life, Joann Bird. In 1953, he served a full-time LDS mission to the Western States Mission. Upon his return he and Joann resumed their courtship and were married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on December 16, 1955. He said he has not had a happier day in his life. In 1959, Lloyd graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Utah. He was employed by Bank of America, Prudential Life Insurance and Phillips Petroleum. In 1961, Lloyd, Joann and Dean and Elaine Storer opened D & L Cleaners on the corner of Skyline and Broadway in Idaho Falls. In 1985, Lloyd and Joann became full owners of the cleaners as well as the attached shopping center. Lloyd spent the rest of his life, even to the day before his passing, working alongside his family in their continued business ventures. Lloyd enjoyed a lifelong love of mining, geology and the great outdoors. Part of that love included the study of astronomy. He loved to read, especially books that strengthened his testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. His LDS church service included Elder's Quorum President, High Councilor and Bishop. His favorite church assignment was Gospel Doctrine teacher. He taught for over ten years and many have expressed appreciation for his gift of teaching the gospel with clarity and the Spirit. The most important thing to him was his family. It cannot be described the great love he had for his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be remembered in their hearts as a kind, wise, intelligent and loving person. He always said that he wanted to die with "his boots on." He loved to work and did so up until his final moment on this earth. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Joann (Bird) Petersen (family home), children: Jolene (Jim) Passey, Mark (Karen) Petersen, Lisa (Tim) Belnap and Darrin (Krischelle) Petersen, all of Idaho Falls; his sister, Rita (Max) Keetch of Fort Collins, CO; and 16 amazing grandchildren and 21 beautiful great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Dorothy Boyce, Juliana Harris, Lillian Petersen, Ellen Stanton, Ina Petersen and Florence Scott. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 24, 2015, at the Idaho Falls LDS Grandview Ward, 1450 Mountain View Lane, with Bishop Jeff Clifford officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, and from 10-10:45 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in the Lewisville Cemetery.
