IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Lloyd Joseph Gould, 78, of Ammon, died March 28, 2010, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of heart failure.
Lloyd was born January 21, 1932 in Newdale, Idaho, to Walter Chester Gould and Alta Ida Davis Gould. He attended Teton Elementary and graduated from Sugar Salem High School where he was an All-State full back and star guard on the Diggers basketball team. He joined the U.S. Navy and served as a Gunner's Mate on the USS Iowa during the Korea War. Lloyd contracted Rheumatic Fever while serving in the Navy and was recovering in Bremerton, Washington when he met the love of his life.
Lloyd married Virgilia Clair Miller on January 10, 1954 in Marysville, Kansas. They made their home in Marysville, Kansas. They returned to Eastern Idaho where their first daughter, Mara Lea was born. Dad was a jack of all trades and a master of all. From auto parts and repair, going to business college, retail store manager to an AEC accountant. Lloyd then began his career as a asphalt specialist, working for John Stone at Idaho Asphalt. Lloyd and John had mutual admiration for each other and made a great team. His pioneering spirit was never more prevalent than his venture into the insulation business, where his innovative aspects are still appreciated today.
He was an ambassador to fair play in all sports. His civic pride showed as an Eagle and he befriended many a bowler and golfer. His backyard barbeque skills are legendary and he somehow fed every hungry kid in the neighborhood. The kids loved Lloyd and looked forward to his relentless teasing and great humor.
His love and fraternal instinct infected all the lives he touched, especially his 11 brothers and sisters, whom he helped and nurtured along with his mother, Alta who was grateful for Lloyd’s assistance. A friend to all, at times to his own detriment, always there to give a leg up, his marvelous example to his fellow man will forever pay forward. Grandfather taught us through sterling example to above all, “allow”.
