LLOYD "GENE" AUTRY
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Lloyd Daniel “Gene” Autry, 73, of Idaho Falls, died July 2, 2007, at his home.
He was born February 26, 1934 in Mena, Arkansas, to Charles Autry and Martha Turner Autry. He attended schools in Oregon and California before moving to Idaho Falls, where he graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1952 and was active in football and basketball. He later attended Utah State and Davenport Business College. He served four years active duty in the U.S. Navy and in the Navy Reserves for another 32 years. He was a Chief Hospital Corpsman.
On April 19, 2002, he remarried Elsie Garrett in Idaho Falls. He worked as a police officer in Michigan with the Grand Rapids Police Department, the Parchment Police Department, and the Kalamazoo Sheriff’s Department. He also worked with the County Sheriff's Department and retired from the Michigan Department of Corrections.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Big Brothers Program and the Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, reading, and walked every day. Gene actively participated in basketball until he was 69 years old, loved watching both high school and college sports, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family, including grandsons, Adam and Jordan Waskelis.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 7, 2007, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 290 - 7th Street, with Pastor Jerry Reinke officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, and Saturday for one hour prior to the services at the church.
Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery with military rites performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
