Lionel was born March 10, 1919 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Ben Brown and Louise “Lizzie” Jahn Brown. When he was 7 years old, the family moved to a dairy farm in Roberts, Idaho. Lionel attended school in Roberts, Idaho. Lionel was part of the First Infinity Division of the Army know as the Big Red One during World War II. He was stationed in Germany when he was wounded while on patrol in the Harrigan Forest. Following his release from a hospital in England he returned the states and was stationed in Maryland. On January 6, 1946, Lionel married Erma Katherine Jenkins. They lived in Victorville, California until Lionel’s honorable discharge from the Army. They then returned to Idaho. Lionel worked hauling lumber, building potato cellars and as foreman for Western Potato Company. In 1966, he leased farmland where he farmed until his retirement in 1980. Unwilling to completely give up working the soil and driving farm equipment, he continued years after to help a friend with planting and the harvest. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, working in the yard and in his vegetable garden. He took great delight in spending time with his family and playing with his grandchildren. Lionel was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. He was a man of quiet faith who loved his Lord. Lionel is survived by his wife Erma of Idaho Falls. Daughters Linda (Jerry) Gilmore of Oregon City, Oregon, DiAnn Brown and Debra Hogg of Idaho Falls and a son Rick (Debbie) Brown of Olathe, Kansas. His son, Clint, preceded him in death. He had 7 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Lionel touched the hearts of many people with his kind and generous spirit. Those who loved him will miss him and we look forward to the day when we can be with him again in our heavenly home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge) with Les Parsons and Pastor Jerry Reinke officiating. The family will visit with friends for one hour prior to the service at Wood Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park. ---------------------------------------------------- Condolences received online: Jim Tibbets jimmysjunque@gmail.com Dear Erma, Linda & Jerry, DiAnn, Debra & Curtis, and Rick & Debbie, Just got a chance to read Sundays paper and spotted Lionel's obituary. It was a pleasure to know him and I hope you all find the solace you need in our shared belief that he is now in a better place. A little homespun advice or words of wisdom if I'm qualified yet to offer such: Don't expect to get over your loss; I'm not sure you are supposed to. Do take comfort in knowing that you will get through it. Take care, all and know that my thoughts are with you in this time of loss. Always, Jim Tibbets
