Linda Maughan Baxter, 82, of Idaho Falls, passed away May 1, 2026, at her home. She was under the care of Solace Hospice.
Linda was born October 30, 1943, in Shoshone, Idaho, to Lyle Raymond Maughan and Ethel Rebecca Randall Maughan. She grew up and attended schools in Hamilton and Wolfpoint, Montana, and attended BYU.
On December 18, 1964, she married Richard Lee Baxter in the Salt Lake Temple. Linda and Richard lived most of their lives in Utah and Idaho, with a few years in Boston and Dallas. In their final years, they made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Linda was a homemaker and mother of nine. Her life was dedicated to her family and music. She taught piano for over 50 years, and recently donated her music collection to the BYU–I Music Department in hopes her legacy and love of music will continue.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed music including piano, organ and choir. She also enjoyed gardening and painting.
Linda is survived by her sons, David (Shelly) Baxter of St. George, UT, Darin (Jill) Baxter of St. George, UT, Kevin (Jacki) Baxter of Astoria, OR, Robert (Michaela) Baxter of St. George, UT, Jeremy Baxter of St. George, UT; and daughters, Lorena (Larry) Angell of Vancouver, WA, Carolyn (Alex) Collette of Idaho Falls, ID, Melanie (Jeffrey) Wade of Rigby, ID, Deb Baxter of Vancouver, WA; sisters, Elaine (Chan) Trusty and Kathleen Walker of Eagle, ID; brother, Ken Maughan of Pleasant Grove, UT; and 25 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Brent Maughan.
Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services Burial will be in the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
