Lewis Thompson

Lewis Sessions Thompson, 92, of Idaho Falls, passed away July 11, 2010, at his home. He was born November 20, 1917, in Ogden, Utah, to Martin W. Thompson and Elva Sessions Thompson. Shortly after his birth the family moved to Rexburg, Idaho where he spent his early years. Lewis honorably served his country in World War II as a military policeman in the Marine Corps. He worked for First Street Plumbing and Heating for more than 25 years until he opened his own business, Lewis Thompson Plumbing, where he worked until he retired. When not working, his favorite time was spent on the South Fork of the Snake River fishing. Even when everyone said the fish were not biting Lewis could catch fish when no one else could. He made several trips to Alaska where the salmon fishing was always first rate and he never went hungry. He especially enjoyed time with his family and only regretted that his grandchildren lived too far away to visit very often. Lewis was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served on a mission in Texas. Survived by his wife of 23 years, Margery Young Thompson, his son and daughter-in-law, Don and Brenda Thompson, Benton City, Washington, daughter and son-in-law, Kaye and Carl Packard, Sacramento, California, brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Shirley Thompson, and sister-in-law, Phyliss Thompson. Lewis was the loving grandfather to 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mildred Goodwin Thompson, who passed away in 1986; three brothers and three sisters. A celebration of Lewis' life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at the Idaho Falls LDS 21st Ward (1155 First Street) with Bishop Michael Baird officiating. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge) and on Saturday from 1-1:45 p.m. prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park with military rites performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
