Biography

Lewis Milton “L.M.” Rule, 94, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2013 surrounded by family. He was born on March 29, 1919 to Lewis M. and Bessie Rule in St. Anthony, Idaho. L.M. went to school in St. Anthony and graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1937. In high school he was active in many sports including track, football, basketball, baseball, tennis and swimming. He was also a talented musician, playing in the high school band and as a saxophone soloist - he earned several awards at the Idaho State Music Festival. He was honorably discharged from the United States military due to complications from a ruptured appendix. He then enrolled and graduated from business college in Salt Lake City, Utah. During World War II he worked as a clerk for the Union Pacific Railroad's perishables department. He married Rose Ferro on May 3, 1946 in Las Vegas. They had one child, a girl named Donna. Rose passed away a year later in October 1947. On June 9, 1957, L.M. married June Browning in Salt Lake City, Utah. He enjoyed spending time with his kids, playing catch and taking them to sporting events - especially the family favorite, the San Francisco Giants. He especially loved the memories of taking his children to the 1962 and 1973 World Series. L.M. worked for the Bank of America in Northern California for twenty years until his retirement in 1982. During that time he was active in the Chamber of Commerce, United Way, and won several business awards. After his retirement he moved back to Idaho Falls and was appointed to the Board of Directors and as Business Manager of the Idaho Falls Symphony, and served in that capacity until 1992. During retirement he enjoyed spending time with family, watching his grandchildren play sports, cheering on the 49ers and Giants, and traveling. L.M.'s infectious personality and selflessness will always be remembered. He is survived by his wife June, son: Ron (JoAnn) Jones of Rigby, Idaho; son: Marvin (Chris) Jones of San Jose, California; son: Milton (Shonni) Rule of Idaho Falls, Idaho; daughter, Donna Lunsford of Idaho Falls, Idaho; sister MaryLou Siddoway of Rohnert Park, California; eleven grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bert and Don Rule, and his first wife Rose. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 23, 2013 at Wood Funeral Home Eastside, 963 South Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, and from 1:00-1:45 p.m. Monday, both at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Annis-Little Butte Cemetery.
