Lewis Dick Hanson, 86, of Idaho Falls, passed away December 8, 2017, at The Gables of Ammon Assisted Living Center. He was under the care of Encompass Hospice. Lewis was born March 25, 1931, in Kim, Colorado, to Charlie Walter Hanson and Hattie Marie Connelly Hanson. He grew up and attended schools in Nampa, Idaho. He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army. On May 1, 1953, he married Jessie Arlene Hanson in Mackey, Idaho. To this union were born six children, Marsha, Kim, Shauneen, Tammie, Michael, and Paul. Lewis and Arlene made their home in Idaho Falls, where Lewis worked as a reactor technician at the Idaho National Laboratory. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a Bishop, in numerous Bishoprics, senior president of the Seventies, and Explorer Leader. Lewis was a taxidermist. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, enjoyed camping, loved the mountains, exploring the country, gardening and his dogs. He loved his beazel-headed grandchildren. Lewis is survived by his son, Lewis Kim (Marcy) Hanson of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Tammie (Michael) Rumsey of Rigby, ID; son, Michael Don (Trina) Hanson of Meridian, ID; son, Paul Charlie (Diana) Hanson of Idaho Falls, ID; 22 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, daughter Jessie Shauneen Dial, and infant daughter, Marsha Marie Hanson, and grandson Brian Blaine Rumsey. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at the Idaho Falls LDS Highland Park Ward, 955 Memorial Drive, with Bishop Kurt Krupp officiating. The family will visit with friends Monday from 6:30-8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, and Tuesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Mackay Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard. Special thanks to the loving staff at The Gables of Ammon and Encompass Hospice.
