Leroy "Red" Schenk

LeRoy M. "Red" Schenk, 86, of Idaho Falls, passed away October 9, 2017, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Red was born January 5, 1931, in Providence, Utah, to John Henry Schenk and Mary Schenk. He grew up and attended schools in Nibley, Utah, and graduated from South Cache High School. On June 17, 1949, he married Melba Margene Jones in Ogden, Utah. To this union were born five children, Paul, Kathy, Gary, Richard and an infant son. Red and Margene made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Red worked as a bus driver for the INL Idaho for 38 years and also worked part-time for 20 years at Hart Pontiac-Cadillac. Margene passed away February 22, 2003. Since Margene’s passing, Red had found companionship with Linda Ritchie. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Eagles Lodge. Red loved everything about cars, boats and motorcycles. He also enjoyed spending time at his homes in Island Park and Mesa, Arizona. Red is survived by his son, Paul (Jan Jones) Schenk of Park City, UT; daughter Kathy (Ben C.) Johnston, of Boise, ID; son Gary Schenk (Lisa Erickson) of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Richard Schenk of Idaho Falls, ID; sister, Nola Schenk Richards of Lava Hot Springs, ID; companion, Linda Ritchie of Idaho Falls, ID; grandson, Jason (Melody) Oswald of Idaho Falls, ID; granddaughter, Jessica (Ken) Sickler of Hyrum, UT; granddaughter, Hillary (Ian) Poor of Park City, UT; grandson, Morgan Schenk of Austin, TX; granddaughter, Aubrey (Andy) Martorana of Idaho Falls, ID; and grandson, Ty (Ashlee) Johnston of Moses Lake, WA; and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Melba Margene Jones and an infant son. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 13, 2017, at Wellsville City Cemetery in Wellsville, Utah. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 6:30-8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 272 N. Ridge Avenue, Idaho Falls, Idaho.
