Mamie Leona Owens Dees, 85, of Ammon, passed away October 10, 2010, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her family. She was born March 18, 1925, to Edward Merrill Owens and Lizzie Addeline Harrison Owens in Teton, Idaho. She grew up in Teton and attended Sugar-Salem High School. She moved to the Idaho Falls area, where she met her husband, Glen Hulet Dees. They were married November 13, 1942. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple July 29, 1955. Glen died September 12, 1988. Leona was a homemaker and a mother and raised four children. She worked as a domestic violence counselor and as a secretary for the Targhee National Forest Service. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served as a Relief Society President and Primary Counselor. She served a full-time LDS mission in San Diego, California. She enjoyed making candy and gardening and she especially loved to be around her family and their children and grandchildren. Leona is survived by her Daughter, Glenda (Richard) Hawkes of Rigby, Idaho; Son, Brent Dees of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Daughter, Terri (Kwin) Kopp, of Ammon, Idaho; 17 Grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glen; and daughter, Michele Anderson. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 14, 2010, at the Ammon LDS 1st Ward, 3000 Central Avenue, with Bishop Ryan Kohler officiating. The family will visit with friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday evening at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Teton-Newdale Cemetery.
Thursday October 14, 2010 , 10:00 a.m. at Ammon LDS 1st Ward
The family will visit with friends on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Wood East Side, 963 S. Ammon Rd., and on Thursday from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Teton-Newdale Cemetery.
