Leo Bartley Slagowski, 89, formerly of Idaho Falls, passed away on January 3, 2012, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He was born December 5, 1922, at Manila, Utah to Eli Ephriam Slagowski and Susan May Merchant Slagowski. He grew up in McKinnon, Wyoming and attended high school in Manila, Utah. Leo served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He attended a trade school where he received training as an electrician. On September 8, 1947, he married Arva Ileen Slaugh in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on January 28, 2010. Leo worked as an Electrician for Union Pacific Railroad. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including Young Men’s Secretary, scoutmaster, and as a member of the ward bishopric. He enjoyed ranching, carpentry, rock collecting, golf, bowling, and hunting. He was a self-taught ham radio operator. Survivors include: Daughter: Marlene (Larry) Hix, Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: Laura (Keith) Flower, Firth, ID Daughter: Dawn Marie (Joseph) Jensen, Palm Beach Gardens, FL Son: James Bartley (Tammy) Slagowski, Lehi, UT Brother: Floyd Slagowski, Carlin, NV 17 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 4 brothers, and 3 sisters. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2012, at the Vernal 1st Ward in Vernal, Utah, with Bishop Kirk Fleetwood, officiating. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Thompson Blackburn Funeral Home in Vernal and on Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Vernal Memorial Park. Local arrangements are under the direction of Wood Funeral Home, 963 S. Ammon Road.
