LEO W. CHRISTENSEN
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Leo Wayne Christensen, 80, of Idaho Falls, died September 6, 2002, at Lavell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah, while watching his grandson play football for Brigham Young University.
He was born May 14, 1922 in Driggs, Idaho to Orson William Christensen and Alice Laretta Hochstrasser. He lived in Driggs and attended Teton Valley Public Schools until age 18 when he volunteered for the U. S. Army. He served in the Army band and achieved the rank of Sergeant during World War II.
He married Rhea L. Johnson May 14, 1943 in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. They have resided in Idaho Falls for 60 years. He worked as a Maintenance Coordinator at the AEC - Naval Reactor facility and INEEL until retirement.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in a bishopric, on the high council, in scouting, was a stake missionary, and was an ordinance worker in the Idaho Falls Temple. He and his wife served a mission from 1991-92 at the Washington, D. C. Temple. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, skiing, gardening, square dancing, and his love of music kept him active in various musical productions, choirs, dance bands, etc. His greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving are:Wife: Rhea J. Christensen, Idaho Falls, IDSon: David Wayne (Norma) Christensen, Ucon, IDSon: Donald J. (Roma) Christensen, Ririe, IDSister: Lillas Lish, Inkom, IDSister: Gladys Davis, Driggs, ID14 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and two sisters.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2002, at the Idaho Falls LDS 20th Ward, 651 Gladstone, with Bishop Lance Toone officiating.
The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge, and for one hourprior to services on Wednesday at the church.
Burial will be in the Victor Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
Military Rites will be performed by the Teton County Veterans Team.
