Lenna H. Deist, 92, of Idaho Falls, passed away July 28, 2014, at Turtle & Crane Assisted Living Center. She was under the care of her loving family.
Lenna was born December 29, 1921, in Clifton, Idaho, to Simon Sidney Hooker and Emma Ann Howell Hooker. The youngest of nine siblings, she grew up and attended schools in Clifton until age 12 when she moved to Idaho Falls to live with her oldest sister and brother-in-law. She attended O. E. Bell Jr. High and then graduated from Idaho Falls High School. Lenna attended the University of Idaho where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She also attended an Interior Design School in New York City.
On November 4, 1944, she married Wesley Walter Deist at Ft. Pierce, Florida after traveling from New York City by train. To this union were born three children, Dana (deceased), Kelley, and Holley. After marrying Wes she moved back to Idaho Falls while Wes left to serve in World War II as a frogman. Lenna worked at First Security Bank and was employed by Clyde Hess and Son Distributing. She worked 13 years as a Credit Manager and, also, In-House-Controller, a job which she created at Sacred Heart (Parkview) Hospital. Lenna then moved to United Insurance Agencies where she worked until well past retirement age. During this time she was also secretary of the Ladies Golf Association and was on the Board of Directors for the Medical Credit Union.
Lenna was an avid tennis fan and golfer and she taught many how to ski as well as play golf. Later in life her biggest passion was her granddaughters. She loved watching them in multiple sports and theatre productions. She hardly missed an event no matter what distance the drive. They all learned etiquette, grace and self reliance from one who truly set an example, and they will always remember her love for baking and gardening. She will be sorely missed.
Lenna is survived by
son, Kelley S. (Shannon) Deist of Idaho Falls, ID,
daughter, Holley (Chris) Deist duPont of Ketchum, ID.
6 granddaughters, Morgan Jensen, Katie Curtis, Whitney Deist Emilie duPont, Lexi duPont, Madeline duPont and great grandsons, Noa Curtis and Knox Jensen
