DR. LELAND KENNETH KRANTZ
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Our loving father, grandfather, physician and friend, Dr. Leland K. Krantz, passed away on June 20, 2007, after a long and rewarding life of helping others. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 64 years, Darlene Ostler Krantz, married September 6, 1943. His three sons all living in Idaho Falls, Dr. Leland Kenneth (Louise) Krantz II, Lynn (Susan) Krantz and Jeffry (Paula) Krantz attended to his needs with care and compassion to his last moments. His daughters, Leslie Krantz of Oakland, California, Laura Parshall of Bremerton, Washington, and Michele (Larry) Staker of Salt Lake City, Utah, kept in close and loving contact.
Lee was born in Salt Lake City on March 31, 1919, the youngest of six children born to Tilda Holmquist and Henrick (Henry) Gothard Krantz. He attended East High School and the University of Utah. He was called to serve in the army during World War II but during basic training was asked by the government to attend medical school. He graduated with the first four year class from the University of Utah College of Medicine in 1944. He completed specialty training in Internal Medicine in Salt Lake City. He served as a physician in the Army until the war ended and then came to Idaho Falls to practice in the Idaho Falls Clinic.
He was recalled to active duty for an additional seven months in the Korean War. After he was released, he returned to Idaho Falls where he served the needs of the community for many years. Lee loved his work and his patients and was a devoted physician. He fulfilled many leadership positions in the medical community.
He will be remembered at a family memorial service. His six children, 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren love him dearly. His integrity and generosity will live in their lives forever.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the University of Utah School of Medicine, Internal Medicine Department, 540 Arapeen, Suite 120, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84108.
