Click Here To View Memorial Video Lela Mary Bird Leavitt, 97, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, August 7, 2015, at Turtle & Crane Assisted Living Center in Idaho Falls. Lela was born September 23, 1917, in Milo, Idaho, to Lewis Richard Bird and Mary Ann Davis Bird. On September 11, 1935, she married Lewis LeGrand Leavitt in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple. They were subsequently blessed with two sons and three daughters, Mary Ann, Grand, Gwen, Steven, and Chris. Lela was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. LeGrand passed away November 5, 1985. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lela served in many positions over the years, including many years as an ordinance worker in the Idaho Falls Temple. She served a successful full-time mission in San Jose, California, after LeGrand passed away. Lela was an avid writer of poetry and shared her poems with family and friends, who will cherish them for generations to come. She is survived by her children, Mary Ann (Eugene) Reese of Idaho Falls, ID; Grand (Faye) Leavitt of Idaho Falls, ID; Gwen (Blaine) Snarr of Orem, UT; Steven (Terry) Leavitt of Idaho Falls, ID, and Chris (Tom) Baccus of The Villages, FL; daughter-in-law, Mary Venhuizen of Idaho Falls, ID. Also surviving are two brothers, Ronald (Zilpha) Bird of St. George, UT, and Ray (Larene) Bird of Idaho Falls, ID; four sisters, Lola Geary of Las Vegas, NV; Rowene (Harold) Lee of Idaho Falls, ID; Elaine Storer of Idaho Falls, ID; and Joann (Lloyd) Petersen of Idaho Falls, ID, and two sisters-in-law, Carma Bird of Rigby, ID; and Vicki Bird of Idaho Falls, ID; 23 grandchildren, 81 great grandchildren, and 42 great great grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her stepmother, Grace Leavitt Bird, two brothers, Kenneth Bird and Rodney Bird, a sister, Wilma Curtis, a sister-in-law, Flora May Bird, and three brothers-in-law, Victor Geary, Dean Storer, and Ramon Curtis. With gratitude the family expresses their appreciation to the loving staff at Turtle & Crane Assisted Living as well as Encompass Hospice for their outstanding care. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2015, at the Idaho Falls LDS Mountain View Ward, 1450 Mountain View Lane, with Grand Leavitt officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue, and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in the Milo Cemetery.

Ridge Avenue, and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in the Milo Cemetery.
