Lee Lloyd Simmons, 84, of Idaho Falls, passed away July 12, 2026, at Idaho Falls Community Hospital. He was surrounded and in the care of his loving family and Aspen Home Health & Hospice.
Lee was born April 28, 1942, in Grace, Idaho, to Ralph Loyd Simmons and Frances Enola Burgett Simmons. His love for the mountains never left him. He grew up and attended schools in Grace and graduated from Grace High School in 1960. He also attended ISU and graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor's Degree in General Engineering and Mechanical Engineering and a Master's Degree in Nuclear Science and Engineering. Lee had an avid love for learning, so much so that he was able to overcome dyslexia. Lee served in the ROTC and continued on to serve in The United States Army as a Captain.
On August 2, 1969, he married Teresa Denise Ashton in Pocatello, Idaho. For eight years, Lee worked as a troubleshooter in Quality Control for Nuclear reactors across the country. He was crucial in starting Nuclear Reactors like the Perry Power Plant in Ohio. Lee and Denise eventually made their home in Shelley, Idaho, where Lee worked as a Nuclear Engineer at the Site.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was blessed to serve as a member of the 70 and multiple bishoprics. He was a master craftsman with woodworking and spent his time creating treasures for all of his loved ones. He was constantly teasing - all time Dad joke champion. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, tour and school bus driving, farm work, nature lover, and was awed by sunsets. He loved all sciences, anything involving power, nuclear, a mathematician, and loved genealogy.
Lee is survived by his wife, Denise Simmons of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Tara Lee of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Joy (Jason) McArthur of Sheridan, WY; son, Adam (Emily) Simmons of Idaho Falls, ID; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Frances Simmons; brothers, Keith Simmons and Lyle Simmons; and his sister, Alberta Louise Simmons.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Taylor Cemetery, 720 East 129th South in Idaho Falls. The family requests you bring your own chairs.
