Riley "Lee" Shelton, 92, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away February 4, 2018, at his home, with his family by his side. He was under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho. Lee was born on June 19, 1925, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Warren Oscar Shelton and Julia Bell Riley Shelton, one of four children. Because his father worked for the railroad, he spent his early years in small railroad towns in Idaho, Nevada, and California. His family moved to Osgood when he was in the 3rd grade, where they farmed and he attended school. He graduated from Ammon High School. When Lee was a senior at Ammon High School, he was high-point player on the basketball team every game, and led Ammon to win the State championship. On November 17, 1944, he married Lois Empey in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. To this union was born three sons, David, Steven and Michael. Lee and Lois made their home in Osgood, Idaho, where Lee farmed for over 40 years. He served in the 2nd World War, where he was stationed first in the Philippines, and then Korea. He was on a ship to fight in Japan when the war ended. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he held various callings. After retiring from farming, he and Lois moved into a condo in Idaho Falls on 9th Street. They lived there for over 30 years, where Lee kept up his farming talents and managed the grounds and upkeep of their condo complex until he retired at the age of 90. Lee loved to be of service to anyone that needed help and his family always came first. Lee is survived by his sons, David (Leslie) Shelton of Lehi, Utah, Steven (Marlys) Shelton of Idaho Falls, 7 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lois, son, Michael, sisters, Evelyn and Gerry, and brother, Warren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 10, 2018, at the Idaho Falls LDS 24th Ward, 1155 E. First Street, with Bishop Jason Skillings officiating. The family will visit with friends from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery where Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
