Lawrence Randolph Fleming

November 26, 1937 — January 29, 2026

Irwin, Idaho

Lawrence “Larry” Fleming, of Irwin, Idaho, passed away January 29, 2026, at his home. He was under the care of Brio Hospice and his loving family.

Larry was born in Idaho Falls on November 26, 1937. His parents were Robert R. Fleming and Lena (Traughber) Fleming.

Larry grew up in Swan Valley, Idaho, where he learned to work hard on the family farm. He had one older brother, Gary (Verona) Fleming; an older sister, Roberta (Fleming) Oviatt; a younger sister, Francis (who died at six months); and a younger brother, Edwin (Jan) Fleming.

Gary and Larry loved to fish and hunt. Every June after the crops were planted, they would ride their horses to the Palisades Lake and camp for a week, fishing and doing what boys do. Edwin, who was eight years younger than Larry, learned to tag along at a young age. He had to be tough to keep up with his older brothers.

In 1956, Larry married the neighbor girl, Trillis Baker. They were just kids, but in 69 years of marriage, they raised five wonderful sons, Scott (Steph), Shane (Lorre), Sonne (Kay), Stace (Wendy) and Shaun (Laura). Those sons gave us 14 grandchildren, and those 14 grandchildren have given us 14 great-grandchildren.

On January 29, 2010, Stace was killed in an avalanche. Sixteen years later, on January 29, 2026, his dad died. What a glorious reunion.

After living away from Swan Valley for 50 years, we returned to our beloved Swan Valley. Larry immediately became immersed in the history of Swan Valley. He soon became known as the valley historian. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of the pioneer families that settled in the area.

When the Swan Valley Cemetery District was established, Larry was appointed to the board. He served many years on the board, and was instrumental in making many improvements to the cemetery.

Larry is survived by his wife, Trillis; four sons; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Stace; and his two sisters.

There will be a celebration of life from 4-8 p.m. on February 14, 2026, at the Rainey Creek Estates in Swan Valley, all are invited to attend. There will be a memorial service, followed by food and a cribbage tournament. Larry loved to play cribbage and was very, very good at it. Games will be played on cribbage boards that Larry and his son, Scott, made.

We want to give special thanks to Brio for their loving care in Larry’s last days. Also a special thank you to Sonne, Scott, Chet, and Kate for being there anytime we needed them. Our great-granddaughter, Breckyn, was with us for the last week of Larry’s life, and her help was so appreciated. Also, thanks to all those who called, visited, sent cards, and said prayers for us. We love all of you.
