Marian LaVon Carter Rowett, 88, of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2015, at the home of her daughter, Janet. She was under the care of Aspen Hospice.
She was born February 22, 1927, in Devil’s Slide, Utah, to Samuel Arthur Carter and Mary Ann Stevens Carter. She grew up and attended schools in Utah. She also lived in Morgan, Utah, and Ogden, Utah, before moving to Idaho Falls, Idaho.
On June 17, 1946, she married Lynn Arthur Rowett in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on January 30, 1951. Lynn preceded her in death on October 23, 2010. LaVon was a devoted mother and homemaker. She also worked at Wonder Bread in Utah, for Dr. Miquel in Idaho Falls, and owned and operated LaVon’s Square Dance Wear and Rosebud Creations. She traveled throughout the Western United States with her square dance business and did the Unique Boutique/Bonneville Craft Fair for over 10 years.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in numerous callings, including teacher in Sunday School, Primary, Mutual and Relief Society. She was also a counselor in Primary and Relief Society Presidencies, and a Primary Secretary. She enjoyed square dancing with the Promenaders and was a member of the Sewettes Sewing Club.
LaVon was a gifted seamstress that enjoyed sewing her family’s wedding dresses, baby dresses, and blessing dresses. She also enjoyed discussing politics, religion and the weather. She was kindhearted, giving and loved her family. She had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren.

Son: Victor Merrick (Susan) Rowett, Idaho Falls, ID
Brother: Wayne (Shirleen) Carter, Odgen, UT
6 Grandchildren: Christopher Roberts, Amelia “Amy” Colvin, Eric Rowett, Mindy Linning, Amanda Rowett, and Ashley Armstrong
11 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a granddaughter, Jessica Wilson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2015, in the Idaho Falls LDS Mountain View Ward, 1450 Mountain View Lane, with Bishop Randall B. Wheeler officiating. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
