LaVon Baker Hammon, 86, of Idaho Falls, passed away April 16, 2014, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
LaVon was born September 3, 1927, in View, Idaho, near Burley, to Frederick W. Baker and Mary Eliza Coombs Baker. She grew up and attended schools in Smithfield Utah, and graduated from North Cache High School. She worked at a nurse assistant while attending Utah State University. LaVon also worked x-ray technician at the budge clinic while living in Utah.
On November 10, 1950, she married Wilford Marion "Slim" Hammon at Elko, Nevada. They were sealed for time and all eternity on April 1, 1955, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. To this union were born four daughters and one son, Catherine, Carol, David, Carma and Nancy. LaVon and Slim began their married life in Milo, Idaho, but after the birth of their second daughter they settled in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, LaVon served in Relief Society, Young Women and Primary Presidencies. She also served as a temple worker and served a mission call at Deseret Industries in the home craft and humanitarian areas for over fifteen years. She was a chief election judge for Bonneville County and a 4-H leader. She enjoyed gardening, pinochle and board games of all sorts, and loved watching BYU football (when they won). She especially enjoyed watching baseball games where her grandkids played. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Daughter, Catherine Hammon of Idaho Falls, ID;
Daughter, Carol (Jerry) Neitzel of Idaho Falls, ID;
Daughter, Carma (Stephen) Boggie of Winchester, ID;
Daughter, Nancy (Tony) LaPorta of Idaho Falls, ID;
Brother, David (Marilyn) Baker of Smithfield, UT;
9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, David Hammon, her parents, her sisters, Gwen Wilson, Vanever Jeppsen, and Bernice Baker, and her brothers, Trent, Wayne and Barzee Baker.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2014, at the Idaho Falls LDS 18th Ward, 1200 Dunbar, with Bishop Shaun Orgill officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Sunday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue and Monday from 11:00-11:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
