IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Laveta Walker Nelson Willyerd, 87, of Idaho Falls, died September 23, 2009, at The Gables Assisted Living Center of natural causes.
Laveta was born January 2, 1922, in Annis, Idaho, to Erastus Walker and Mary Smithies Walker. She grew up in the Annis / Rigby area and graduated from Rigby High School. She earned her degree from Glenn E. Clark Business School in Idaho Falls.
She married Royal Nelson and they lived in Idaho Falls, then ranched in the Pahsimeroi Valley. They later returned to Idaho Falls and Shelley. They were later divorced. Following her divorce, she returned to Idaho Falls. She was a homemaker and mother and also worked as a secretary at Idaho Grain and Feed in Shelley and Clark Brothers Construction.
She married Virgil LeRoy Willyerd in 1975 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They lived in the Wilford area until after the Teton Dam collapse in 1976, when they moved to Firth. Virgil passed away in 2005. She returned to Idaho Falls four years ago and lived at Lincoln Court and The Gables Assisted Living Centers.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints served in the primary, relief society, sang in her ward choirs, and served missions with her husband to Alberta, Canada and Boston Massachusetts. She also sang with the Sweet Adelines. Laveta enjoyed painting, gardening, and canning.

Stepdaughter: Carol (Floyd) Burnett, Logan, UT
Stepson: Keith (Bessie) Willyerd, Blackfoot, ID
38 Grandchildren, 121 Great Grandchildren, and 11 Great-great grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Carol Cleverley, a brother, Verl Walker, and a sister, Velma Lake.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m, Tuesday, September 29, 2009, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends Monday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m., both at Wood East Side. Burial will be in the Annis-Little Butte Cemetery.
