Laverne "Verne" Williams

LaVern (Verne) O. Williams, 93, of Idaho Falls, passed away June 2, 2016 at Lincoln Court Retirement Center.

Verne was born October 28, 1922 in Milton, Oregon to Edgar R. and Dora Griffin Williams. He was 1940 graduate of Walla Walla High School.

In September of that same year he was inducted into the U.S. Army. He served in Alaska and Western Europe as well as several posts in the United States. He was discharged in October, 1945 as a 1st Sergeant.

On June 16, 1946, Verne married Patricia (Pat) M. Anderson in Pasco, Washington at the First Congregational Church. They lived in Pasco until 1952 when they moved to Spokane, Washington, where Verne worked for Ernst & Ernst accounting firm and Economy Oil Company.

In November, 1959, they moved to Idaho Falls where Verne was employed as a CPA for Rogers Brothers Seed Company. He retired from the CPA firm of Williams, Gaskill & Ferguson in 1985.

After his retirement, he spent several years as a volunteer tax consultant for the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Tax-aide Program.

Verne was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and an Elder.

Verne’s hobbies included horses, camping, travel, boating, gardening, creative crafts, and golfing. He was particularly proud of the hole in one he made at Sand Creek golf course. He was a member of the Knife & Fork Club, Elks Club and Idaho Falls Country club.

Verne is survived by his wife, Pat, of Idaho Falls, Daughter, Jeanne Goodrich of Portland, OR; Daughter, Mary (Dick) Shuman of Idaho Falls, ID; 2 Grandchildren, Jason (Suzanne) Shuman of Birmingham, AL; Kristy (Justin) Sommers of Idaho Falls, ID; Sister, Erma Pitcher of Walla,Walla, WA; and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Lorraine Bracy and two brothers, Kenneth E. Williams and C. Howard Williams

Funeral services will be at 12 noon, Monday, June 6, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church, 325 Elm Street, Idaho Falls, Idaho. The family will visit with friends from 10:30-11:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church.

Interment will be at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery following the service. Veterans rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team.
