LaVerne Joy Brower, 85, of Bremerton, Washington, passed away March 22, 2017, at her home. She was under the care of her loving family. LaVerne was born August 24, 1931, in Aberdeen, Idaho, to Marion Smith and Ruby Jamison Smith. The family moved to Shelley, Idaho, when she was at the age of three where she grew up and graduated from Shelley High School in 1949. She also attended Western Union Trade School in California. She married Darwin Kelley on January 18, 1952, in Shelley, Idaho. The marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They made their home in Shelley, later moving to Wapello, Idaho, where they raised their five children, Brad, Steven, Scott, Susan, and Paul. LaVerne was a wife, mother, and homemaker. She also worked as a business administrator for Western Union. Darwin passed away August 19, 1969. On December 29, 1974, she married Melvin Brower in Idaho, joining his children, Melody and Gordon. LaVerne and Melvin made their home in Warden, Washington, where Melvin was employed with Spunik Equipment until he retired, moving to Bremerton, Washington. Melvin passed away in December 2000. LaVerne was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in her callings. She enjoyed reading the scriptures, as well as other inspiring books. She had a passion for growing flowers and was known for her beautiful flower gardens. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren unconditionally. She loved the outdoors and fishing with her family. She enjoyed crocheting for loved ones. She loved her pets dearly, as with all animals. She is survived by her son, Brad D Kelley (Dawnie) of Moses Lake; son, Steven M. Kelley of Excelsior Springs, MO; son, Scott S Kelley (Janis E) of Bremerton, WA; daughter, Susan M. (Michael V) Dickinson of Bremerton, WA; step-daughter, Melody D. Wilson of Excelsior Springs, MO; step-son, Gordon J. (Diana) Brower of Boise, Idaho; 29 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, both of her husbands, her youngest son, Paul S. Kelley, three brothers, Marvin, Billy, and Jimmy Smith, and a sister, Marianne Grace Rands. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Shelley-Hillcrest Cemetery.
