Laverla Bateman

LaVerla Jones Bateman, 89, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away June 11, 2012, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center as a result of surgery complications and age. She was living at Parkwood Meadows Assisted Living Community. The family would like to give a big thank you to everyone at Parkwood for the help and support they gave our mother and grandmother this past two and a half years. LaVerla was born April 6, 1923, in Magna, Utah, to Raymond Richard Jones and Elsie Ella Wassmer Jones. The family later moved to West Jordan, Utah. LaVerla married Mack ElRay Bateman on December 25, 1946, and they moved to Freedom, Wyoming, to ranch. While living in Freedom, Wyoming, LaVerla assisted Mack on the ranch, raised their children, and worked at the Creamery in Thayne, Wyoming. They moved to Idaho Falls in 1958, and she worked at J. C. Penney, Ford Johnson’s, and Mel Brown over the years. After retirement in 1983, Mack and LaVerla spent their winters in Yuma, Arizona, and traveled all over the United States. They had many close friends and family in both locations. LaVerla is survived by her two brothers, Merlin (Vondalee) Jones of West Jordan, Utah, LaMar (Vicki) Jones, of Pendleton, Oregon, five children, Dennis (Wylene) Bateman of Iona, ID, Gary Bateman and Pamela (LeRoy) Erickson, both of Idaho Falls, ID, Bonnie (Jerry) Cosgrove of Laguna Niguel, CA, and Sandra (Steve) Hankel of Star, ID, 14 grandchildren 33 great grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Melva J. Powell, her husband, Mack, and a grandson, Jed Dennis Bateman. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Wood East Side. Burial will be next to Mack in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
