Laura Hansen went to be with the Lord February 25, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.
Laura Janell was the second born to Roy and Louise Cowman of Rockland, Idaho, on November 6, 1932. She grew up in the 1st Congregational Church of Rockland where her Grandfather was the Reverend Joseph Cowman. Her parents owned the Rockland Mercantile, along with several other businesses that went along with the store.
One day she waited on a young man buying groceries for his family farm in Holbrook. Turns out it was Robert C. Hansen. Two years later, they were married on July 13, 1952, in the Little Congregational Church in Rockland.
A year later, they moved to Downey to run the family farm there. They farmed and ranched side by side and stayed in Downey for 67 years. Laura loved spending time in her yard raising beautiful flowers and always had a huge garden. She always wanted to have extra produce to share with friends and family. She held many positions in the Downey Study Club, Legion Auxiliary, and was a Pink Lady for the Downey Hospital. She participated in the South Bannock County Fair for years, checking the flowers in and working in the Legion food booth.
Through the years, she attended the Presbyterian Church in Malad where she enjoyed singing in the choir.
In 1994, The Marsh Valley Bible Church was started in Downey. She was one of the first to be there, and was a founding member of the church. She was treasurer for many, many years and served in so many other ways. She was so grateful and blessed to have a church in her hometown. She never met anyone that wasn’t a friend, and if friends or family needed anything, she was there for them. Laura was a very kind and caring person. She was an avid quilter, snowmobiler, golfer, and Utah Jazz Fan. She loved the outdoors and wildlife. Yellowstone was her favorite place to be, both summer and winter.
Laura is survived by her children, her son, Steven (Sherri) and her daughter, Tina; grandchildren, Kamron and Westley (Malorie); and great grandchild, Isaiah. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob; brother, Curtis; sister-in-law, Mary Jane; and her mother and father.
A viewing will be held from 12-12:45 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2022, at the 1st Congregational Church, 280 S. Pine, in Rockland. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow services at Rockland Cemetery.
