Lathan Kent Nichols

Lathan Kent Nichols, 40, of Idaho Falls, passed away March 18, 2022, at Mountain View Hospital, surrounded by his family.

Lathan was born December 21, 1981, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Melvin Dean Nichols and JoAn Marie Smith Nichols. He grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls and graduated from Lincoln High School.

Lathan enjoyed everything outdoors. He escaped every chance he got to go fishing or camping. He enjoyed hunting deer and elk in the fall. He loved being and working on the farm. Lathan also enjoyed working in the yard and even planted his own little garden for a couple years. He looked forward to days off so he could take off with friends to go camping and fishing or just hang out with them, or with his best friend River. River was always by his side when it came to fishing, hunting, camping, or being out on the water together. They were always on adventures.

Lathan was a good, caring, and loyal friend to many. He loved to stop and visit with friends or family he came across while out and about in the neighborhood. If he was driving by but not able to stop he’d always make sure to honk his horn and let them know he was there.

Lathan lived life on his terms. He was stubborn and frustrating to no end, but you couldn't help but love him. He learned many lessons the hard way, but just kept moving forward living his life the way he wanted to. Lathan spent several years living at home helping to care for his parents as their health was failing them. Lathan loved his nieces and nephews, but mostly enjoyed teasing them. When they were younger, he was always out jumping on the trampoline or pulling them around in the wagon behind "gizmo". He wasn't afraid to laugh and have fun with them.

Lathan is survived by his siblings, Corey (Ryan) Ward of Teton, ID; Lori (Mel) Elliott of Pocatello, ID; Jeff Nichols of Idaho Falls , ID; Elissa Davis of West Jordan, UT; Chad Simmons (Raquel) of Dallas, TX; Justin (Melissa ) Nichols of Idaho Falls, ID; and Jonathan (JaNay) Nichols of Madison, AL; along with many nieces and nephews and even a couple of great nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Barry Nichols.

He is very loved and will be missed by many.

A memorial will be held at a later date.
