Larry Wells Whitney

Larry Wells Whitney, 85, of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on November 3, 2024. He was under the care of One Source Hospice and his loving family.

Larry was born December 22, 1938, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Wells Alonzo Whitney and Lucille Violet Jacobsen Whitney. He grew up in Idaho Falls and attended O.E. Bell and graduated from Idaho Falls High School. He also attended Idaho State College.

His first marriage was to Leah Davies on September 3, 1958, in Idaho Falls. They had five children, Julie, Gaylene, Sandy, Matt, and Jon. They later divorced.

On July 31, 1993, he married M. Carolyn Salmon Ball, his eternal companion, his sweetie and best friend, in the Idaho Falls Temple. Larry and Carolyn made their home in Firth, and then moved to Idaho Falls, where Larry owned a printing company and a Chinchilla Ranch.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as an officiator at the temple for three years and was an Addiction Recovery missionary for four years. He was a member of the Homer Pigeon Club. He enjoyed racing homing pigeons, raising Chinchillas, creating things, loved to travel, loved road trips, sight seeing, John Wayne western movies, and his family.

Larry is survived by his wife, M. Carolyn Whitney of Ammon, ID; daughter, Julie (Mark) Wilkey of Draper, UT; daughter, Gaylene (Gregory) Biddulph of Scottsdale, AZ; daughter, Sandy (Kevin) Maughan of Beavercreek, OR; son, Matt Whitney of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Jon (Diana) Whitney of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Brenda (Joe) Tomczyk of Las Vegas, NV; daughter, Beckie (Max) Wolf of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Belinda (Kyle) Miller of Eagle, ID; daughter, Bobbi Kirkham of Ammon, ID;  26 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wells Alonzo Whitney; mother, Lucille Violet Whitney; son, Bret Ball; sister, Arlene Cherney; brothers, Samuel Whitney, and Bud Whitney.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Ammon 4th Ward, 3000 Central Avenue, with Jared Dawson, 2nd Counselor of the Elders Quorum officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 to 9:45 a.m. prior, both times at the church. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
