Larry Mason

After suffering a long, courageous battle with multiple health issues, our father and hero passed away surrounded by his loving family on September 13, 2017, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

David Lawrence Mason was born January 26, 1945, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Richard M. Mason and Mary Bush Mason. He grew up and attended schools in Idaho Falls, graduating from Idaho Falls High School. He attended Ricks College, as well as many business schools throughout the country.

On March 26, 1964, he married his high school sweetheart, and love of his life, Jean Lindsay in Idaho Falls. To this union were born four children, Stacey, Jeffrey, Nicole, and Jamie. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on September 14, 2014.

Larry and Jean made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Larry was the owner and operator of Mason's Office Center for 35 years. He had many loyal customers, some becoming life-long friends. He was known for his honesty and integrity, always going above and beyond for his customers. If someone brought him a machine he couldn't fix, he would spend countless hours trying, until he found a way to fix it. If he would've charged by the hour for his service, he could've retired a millionaire. He loved his customers and was devastated when his illness forced him to close the doors in 2012. After his retirement he enjoyed crossword puzzles, Sudoku, FOX News, and his new- found love…Facebook.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and found much peace and hope through faithfully reading the scriptures and daily prayer. He had a passion for the game of golf, and somehow found the time to play at least four times a week. He and Jean enjoyed playing together and belonged to the Idaho Chapman Golf Association. Sometimes playing together made for a long ride home afterwards...maybe because mom was a better golfer than dad. Dad played the trumpet in the IFHS and Ricks College marching bands. He loved Jazz music and hosted a weekly radio show on KUPI called, "Jazz Tracks." Dad had an incredible radio voice. It was devastating to us all when his voice was taken from him due to throat cancer. He loved ALL sports and was a loyal Denver Broncos and Utah Jazz fan.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jean Mason of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Stacey (Brad) Chapman of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Jeffrey D. Mason of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Nicole (Paul) Jacobsen of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Jamie (Bernie) Cefalu of Baltimore, MD; brother, Rick (Marsha) Mason of Apache Junction, AZ; and 15 beautiful grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bradley Kay Mason, and infant brother Richard Mason Jr.

Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for the extraordinary care given to dad by the many doctors, nurses and caregivers at EIRMC. Their special care and empathy throughout Dad's courageous fight did not go unnoticed. A special thanks to Dr.'s Alan Avondet and Daniel Hinckley for the many years of compassionate care.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, September 18, 2017, at Idaho Falls LDS Parkwood Ward, 395 Second Street, with Bishop Stephen Miller officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, and Monday from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the number of moments that take our breath away." We love you dad and miss you terribly, but take comfort in knowing that you can now catch YOUR breath. Families are forever!

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Huntsman Cancer Institute or LDS Humanitarian Fund.
