S. Lawrence “Larry” Lebow went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 31, 2014. He was born February 26, 1934, to William L. and Clara Cordelia (Miller) Lebow in Ashland, Oregon. He graduated from Ashland High School and attended the University of Oregon and Northwest Christian College (NCC) in Eugene, Oregon. He served in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1958 aboard the USS Regulus and the USS Vesuvius.
Larry met his future wife, Marlys Nelson, at NCC. They were married Christmas Eve, December 24, 1953, and celebrated more than 60 years together. Their son, Scott, was born in San Diego, California, daughter, Kristine, was born in Tacoma, Washington, and daughter, Laurie, was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
His faith in the Lord was strong and he served Him all his life. He was a member of Christ Community Church and served long and well, volunteering many hours serving others. He was loved by many who treasured his cheerfulness and ability. He was an inspiration to all he knew for the grace and optimism he showed while battling a terminal illness.
Larry was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Clyde Johnson, and grandson, Macallan Johnson, his parents, brother, Kenneth Lebow, and sister, Dorothy Adams. He is survived by his wife, Marlys; their children, Scott (Sherri) Lebow of Knoxville, TN; Kristine Lebow of Portland, OR; and Laurie (Troy) Jackson of Edwards, CO; and his sister, Lucille (Ralph) Brickey of Portland, OR. Larry’s grandchildren are Patrick (Laura) Lebow of Cabot, AR, Ariel (Jesse) Cox of Portland OR, Micah Sherman (Nicole Graf) of Olympia, WA, and Andrew Lebow of Knoxville, TN. His great-grandchildren are Bailey and Samuel Lebow of Cabot, AR, and Avi Cox of Portland, OR.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2014, at Christ Community Church, 5742 South 5th West (Park Road), with Pastor Rick Lum officiating. A luncheon at the church will follow the services. The family requests contributions to the Christ Community Church Building Fund in lieu of flowers.
