Orville Lawrence “Larry” Jones, Jr., 65, of Idaho Falls, passed away on January 9, 2011, at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah.
He was born April 14, 1945, in Los Angeles, California to Orville Lawrence Jones, Sr. and Betty Jeannette Long. He was raised in Tooele, Utah; Vista and Twentynine Palms, California; and Boise, Idaho. He graduated from Boise High School in 1963.
He married Bobbie Peterson on October 10, 1964 in Boise, Idaho. She passed away on April 4, 1966.
He served in the U.S. Army, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He continued his education at Idaho State University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree.
On December 22, 1966, he married Rhea Davis in the Los Angeles Temple. He served as an officer in the Idaho National Guard and the U.S. Army. He worked for the Forest Service and the Department of Energy (DOE) as Director of Safeguards and Security at INEL. He also served as a deputy sheriff in Bonneville County. He and Rhea lived in various locations including Oklahoma, California, Idaho, Wyoming, Washington, and Maryland.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in numerous callings, his favorite being Scoutmaster. One of the highlights of his life was serving with Rhea as Military Relations Missionaries in Fort Knox, Kentucky.
He enjoyed serving and spending time with his family, scouting, flying, the outdoors, dogs and prospecting.

He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services will be at 12 Noon on Saturday, January 15, 2011, at the Idaho Falls LDS West Stake Center (2040 Brentwood) with Bishop Kirk Larsen, of the Idaho Falls LDS Skyline Ward, officiating. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge) and on Saturday frsom 11-11:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church.
Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery with military rites performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
