Larry Albert Hardcastle, 87, of Idaho Falls, passed away February 10, 2026, at his home. After valiantly battling Parkinson’s and melanoma, he succumbed to a traumatic brain injury after a fall. He was under the care of his loving family and Aspen Home Health & Hospice.
Larry was born August 28, 1938, in Sandy, Utah, to Orlando Albert Hardcastle and Ruth Tolman Hardcastle. He grew up and attended school in Sandy, Utah, and graduated from Jordan High School. He also attended the University of Utah and received his bachelor’s degree in engineering.
On September 23, 1957, he married Ida Christine Mortensen in the Salt Lake City Temple. Larry and Ida made their home in Idaho Falls where Larry worked as a Nuclear Engineer for Westinghouse for 33 years.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held several leadership positions and served as a missionary in the Addiction Recovery Program for six years. He served with his wife in many community organizations, including the Festival of Trees and the Museum of Idaho. He enjoyed golfing, snowmobiling, snow skiing, water skiing, and hiking. He especially enjoyed traveling and visited all 50 states and every continent. He was a gifted builder and entirely built four homes, one four-plex, two cabins, and flipped five homes.
Larry is survived by his wife, Ida Hardcastle of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Lloyd Albert (Kirsten) Hardcastle of Bountiful, UT; daughter, Adrienne Ida (Eric) Woolstenhulme of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Amy Ruth (Daniel) Cottam of North Salt Lake City, UT; brother, Dennis (Marcia) Hardcastle of Sandy, UT; brother, Kent (Jodi) Hardcastle of South Jordan, UT; sister, Cathy (Scott) Duncan of Heber City, UT; 17 grandchildren, and 43 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, O. Albert and Ruth Hardcastle; sister, Karen Hardcastle Black; and brother, Kim Tolman Hardcastle.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at the Cedar Ridge Ward, 3195 S. Holmes in Idaho Falls. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening, February 23, 2026, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue, and Tuesday morning from 9-9:45 a.m. prior to the church services. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at the South Jordan Cemetery in South Jordan, Utah.
