Lawrence Mitchell “Larry” Gunter, 77, of Ammon, former longtime resident of Pocatello, passed away November 8, 2012, at his home of Alzheimer’s Disease. He was under the care of his family and Hearts for Hospice.
Larry was born November 24, 1934, in Ontario, Oregon, to James Mitchell Gunter and Ada Mary Larsen Gunter. His early years were spent in Vale and Little Valley, Oregon, and the family moved to Shelton, Washington, then to Marysville, Idaho, east of Ashton, after his first year in school. After his father started working for Union Pacific Railroad the family settled in Pocatello, where he grew up and attended schools. In 1952, at age 17, he joined the U. S. Navy and was assigned to the USS Endicott in Japan and served during the Korean Conflict.
Upon returning to Pocatello, he worked for Yellowstone Motor, then spent 40 years working at FMC Corp, where he made many great friends.
On August 28, 1958, he married Sharon Hathaway in Pocatello, Idaho. They made their home in Pocatello, where they raised their four beautiful children, Teresa, Jeff, Julie, and Lynn. They moved to Ammon three years ago.
Larry was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Larry’s first loves were fishing, golfing, baseball, and his Idaho State Bengals. He spent many hours at ISU’s Holt Arena. He was affectionately known as one of the original railbirds for the many hours he spent standing at the rails in the minidome, watching the basketball and football practices.

Daughter, Teresa (Mike) Bennett of Boise, ID,
Daughter, Julie Gunter of Ammon, ID;
Son, Jeffrey (Gloria) Gunter of Hailey, ID,
Son, Lynn (Keri) Gunter of Liberty, UT;
Sister, Joyce M. Jones Hansen of Pocatello, ID;
and 8 grandchildren, Christopher, Adam, and Hayley Bennett of Boise, ID, Olivia Gunter of Ammon, ID, and Brett, Sarah, Matt and Zachary Gunter of Liberty, Utah.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Vernal Gunter, and a sister, Claudette Ward.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, with William E. Hathaway officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at Wood East Side. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard. The family suggests memorial donations in lieu of flowers to Hearts For Hospice, 503 South Woodruff Avenue, Idaho Falls, ID 83401.
