He graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1951, and joined the United States Air Force serving four years during the Korean War, earning the rank of Sergeant.

Larry followed his Dad’s occupation and went into management training for Montgomery Ward. After a few years of transferring around, he yearned to go home to Idaho Falls. There he began a career in real estate and got his broker’s license. He was successful and opened his own Garn Real Estate office. He was happy with his choice and remained at home in Idaho Falls until his death.

Larry was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in the Boulevard Ward, and had been ordained an Elder.
