LaReta May Thompson Stott was born August 18, 1930, in Driggs, Idaho, the first of three daughters born to Nolen and Veda Thompson. She passed away April 12, 2012, in Ammon, Idaho.
She attended school in Driggs. She was active in band, orchestra, glee club, operettas, school paper and yearbook staffs. She truly loved the social aspects of school and spending time with friends. After high school she worked in Sun Valley for a summer and traveled a bit with friends. She moved to Denver to work and spend time with family. She loved the big city life.
On June 7, 1958, she married Percy Lynn Stott in Driggs, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple April 19, 1977. They made their home in Felt, where they worked side by side for 37 years running their ranch. LaReta missed the city life, but loved the beauty of Teton Valley and the magnificent view of the peaks out her front window. They raised their three children together in the red brick home along Hwy 32 that Perc had built for them.
She was an excellent cook and stayed very busy helping things run smoothly, raising her family and keeping her house in excellent order. She loved to travel and would jump at any opportunity to be on the go; whether with family or friends, she loved to see new places and continued this hobby until her declining health made it no longer possible. Perc and LaReta loved spending time in Mesa, Arizona, where they purchased a second home. They enjoyed this time together and made many good friends there.
LaReta was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings, some of her favorites included Ward Primary President and Cub Scout leader. She served as Stake Relief Society President and loved this opportunity to serve the wonderful sisters of the Driggs Idaho Stake.
In their later years LaReta helped care for Perc as his health declined. He passed away November 16, 1995, a short time after they had moved to Idaho Falls. LaReta had many health problems of her own, which she bravely endured. She had many years of in-home care provided by family with the help of Caring Hearts Senior Care and their wonderful staff, many who have become dear friends. For the last 3½ years she has made her home at The Gables Assisted Living Center, where she was provided with excellent care and companionship. She has also been under the compassionate care of Creekside Hospice for her final 19 months.
LaReta is survived by her children, Tom & Krista Stott of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Mary (Lane) Monson of Utah, Jeff (Tracy) Stott of Utah (Oregon), and 11 grandchildren, sisters, Marilyn (Glade) Wasden of Rexburg, and Nolean (Quinn) Bean of Idaho Falls. She was preceded in death by her husband, Percy Stott, and parents, Nolen Fielding Thompson and Veda Myrtle Cluff Thompson.
