Lallis Mckenzie

Our wonderful mother, Lallis Isom McKenzie, 93, of Idaho Falls, passed away December 11, 2010, at her home, of causes incident to age. Lallis was born June 30, 1917, in Hurricane, Utah, the first of seven children born to Andrew Normington Isom and Jacosa Dean Burke Isom. The family relocated near Grace, Idaho in 1926. In 1928 the family bought a farm east of Idaho Falls and Lallis worked alongside her father, rolling, raking and pitching hay. She worked on the farm, attended school in New Sweden, and later graduated from Idaho Falls High School. Lallis met Joseph Wilford McKenzie when he and his father came to their farm to help with harvest. They dated and especially liked attending baseball games. On July 1, 1935, they eloped and were married in Blackfoot, Idaho. Early in their marriage Lallis and Wilford worked at sheep camps for various farmers in the area. They later lived near Idaho Falls and also lived briefly in Goshen. In the early 1940s they moved to Arco to manage a farm for Wilford’s sister. They later moved to Howe and continued farming there for the next eleven years. In 1954, they moved to their home on Garfield Street in Idaho Falls. Wilford became ill in the early 1960s and Lallis went to work cleaning houses and office buildings, and ironing. She also did housekeeping for several local families. Wilford died April 18, 1968. Lallis continued working and was employed in the laundry at the LDS Hospital. After a few months she became a supervisor and was honored as employee of the month. She retired in June, 1982 after ten years. Lallis enjoyed her retirement by quilting, gardening, and crocheting. She made quilts for all her children and grandchildren and was an avid reader. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Lallis is survived by her children, Jay (Alice) Wilford McKenzie, Gladys Faye Walton, and David (Sheryl) Paul McKenzie, all of Idaho Falls, ID; two sisters, Maxine Isom of Baker, OR, and Earlene Campbell of Idaho Falls, ID; two brothers, Charles Isom of Rupert, ID and Frank (Roberta) Isom of Idaho Falls, ID; 11 grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren, and 9 Great Great Grandchildren.
