L. WAYNE HAMMOND
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- L. Wayne Hammond, 89, of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully in his home on December 26, 2006.
Wayne was born in Groveland, Idaho on September 16, 1917, to Samuel Smith Hammond and Vera Elizabeth Wilde. Wayne graduated from Moreland High and then served in the US Army during World War II. Wayne participated in the South Pacific Campaign in the Solomon Islands.
He married his sweetheart Amelia Kingsford June 2, 1944 in Hamilton, Montana. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. They shared many happy memories while raising their six children in Iona.
Wayne was an electrician and worked at the INL Site until 1982. Shortly after retirement he began volunteering at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He was honored for providing over 10,000 hours of service and was known by many as the “Juice Man.”
Wayne was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the bishopric and was also a temple worker in the Idaho Falls Temple. His greatest love was teaching the youth in Sunday School.
Wayne kept a meticulous yard and grew vegetables that he loved sharing with friends and neighbors. But far and above anything else Wayne enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Many loved Wayne because he had the ability to make people laugh.

Dear Janice,
My husband retired early and we moved up to Iona 10 years ago to take care of my Mom, who passed away in 2003. I think your parents had moved from Iona by then, but I remember the fun times we had driving to and from Iona and Salt Lake. Iona people are the very best. Hope you and your family are strengthened and comforted at this time.
Kathy

Wayne and I shared the same birthday and I loved him from the time I was a little girl. On Waynes days off from the site he worked with my mom for Dr. Sell. Those are my first memories of him. I thought of him as a dear friend and adopted him as another dad when our family moved to Iona. Wayne you will be missed and thought of often. Ameila our prayers are with you and your family. Mom would want you to know that she thought the world of Wayne and you. Waynes sense of humor, and friendship will be miss but not forgotten. Bonnie you and I have been a friends for many years my heartfelt symathy is with you and your family at this time.
Mickey

We enjoyed meeting Wayne a few times with my father (his nephew John, Ray's son) when we were up in Idaho. He's a great guy with a great sense of humor as all of us Hammonds do.
We'll miss him

Dear Hammond Family,
I just heard about Wayne's passing and wanted to tell you how much I am thinking of you.
Just to jog your memory, Lorie and I were best friends all during school, from elementary on. We had a lot of fun getting in trouble together!
I have so many wonderful memories of your dad that there is no way I can express them all. He was kind and funny and so positive about life. The patience I watched him exhibit impressed me at even a young age. I remember a couple of summers many years ago when Steve had spinal surgery and was in a body cast and was very uncomfortable and in a lot of pain. I witnessed so many times his loving, patient care of Steve.
He was so good to me. To this day, I often use the nickname he always called me as a computer password! I loved being over to Lorie's house when her Dad was home as I felt so relaxed and comfortable and like I was just part of the family.
I consider myself very lucky to have been counted as one of his friends. He will always have a special place in my heart. As I've grown up, I realize how very special and unique anyone is that can be such an uplifting influence on others, in spite of everything they are going thru in their own lives. I know now his wasn't easy, but he made you feel like you were the most special person in the world each and every time he saw you. What a gift!
All my love,
Pam Bean McKinley
