Kiyoko Nukaya Sakaguchi passed away in the early morning of July 5, 2012. Kiyo was born January 7, 1926 in Iona, Idaho the third child and only daughter of Kiukichi and Ine Nukaya. She attended elementary schools in Ammon and graduated from Ammon High School. She married Tadashi “Todd” Kuwana in February 1944. They had four children. Janie Pritchard (Donald), North Ogden, Utah; Marsha Severin (Patrick), Issaquah, Washington; Michael Kuwana (Linda), Tremonton, Utah; and Craig Kuwana (Sandra), Idaho Falls, Idaho. They later divorced. She married Isamu “Bud” Sakaguchi on November 26, 1956. They had one child Martin Sakaguchi, North Ogden, Utah. Kiyo excelled at being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She devoted her life to teaching and serving her family. She loved gardening, sewing, French beading, and crocheting. Her loving hands provided an exquisite French beaded gift for every family member from her children down to her nieces and nephews. Her cooking of traditional Japanese foods was always eagerly anticipated by her family. Her New Years Day feast will be greatly missed by her children. She has left a legacy of warm family gatherings and delicious meals. She is survived by her five children, eight grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. Grandma “Guchi” will be missed by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by four brothers, Hitoshi Nukaya (Sharelle), Las Vegas, Nevada; Fumio Nukaya (Fumiko); Jun Nukaya (Taka), all of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Ken Nukaya (Pam), Twin Falls, Idaho and three sisters-in-law, DeAun Nukaya, Harumi Nukaya, and Lee Nukaya all of Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Hisao “Speed” Nukaya, Shoji Nukaya, and Katsumi Nukaya, all of Idaho Falls, Idaho; a grandson, Donnie Pritchard and great granddaughter, Nicole Pritchard. Her loving husband Bud passed away May 4, 1989. The family would like to thank the staff at Fairwinds Assisted Living Center and OneSource Home, Health and Hospice for their compassionate care of Mom. Mom also met special friends who were also residents at Fairwinds . Prior to moving into Fairwinds, Mom also received wonderful care at her home in Harrisville, Utah from the CNAs at Right at Home. Mother requested that no funeral services be held. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2012, at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge).
