Kirby Eugene Nebeker, 49, of Rigby, Idaho, passed away January 15, 2021 in Idaho Falls, after a long courageous battle with brain cancer, and with his children and family members surrounding him. Kirby graduated from Idaho Falls High School. He lettered in track and one of his fondest memories of that time was when his Dad attended one of his meets; it made him feel like a Champion. After graduating from Idaho Falls High School, Kirby worked at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Idaho Falls and found that he loved working with the elderly. He made friends of the residents there and appreciated all that he learned as he worked. Soon after, Kirby served an LDS Mission to the Dominican Republic and loved those he worked with. Kirby developed a love for the Spanish language and could easily impress people with his ability to speak so fluently. Every time he spoke of memories of that time, those two years of his life were ones that he always spoke of with wonder and amazement still in his eyes and heart. Later in life, Kirby received his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University Idaho, something that he went to great lengths to accomplish.
Kirby had two daughters from previous marriages, Kalysa and Umeko. On October 7, 2002, Kirby married Shauna Michelle (Walker) Jones. Their blended family included the addition of two sons, Tyler and Nathanial. Kirby and Shauna were sealed for time and all eternity in the Freiberg, Germany LDS Temple. Kirby served honorably with the U.S. Army Infantry in Vilseck, Germany after a brief time of Active-Duty Service at Fort Lewis in Washington State. Kirby also served in Kosovo, Korea, and Iraq. He was and still is a Die Hard Infantry Man, TOUJOURS PRET-ALWAYS READY!!! Kirby was Active-Duty for 12 years. In that time, he loved the people he worked with, his fellow soldiers and brothers in arms and the people in the countries he where he served. He received the rank of Staff Sargent during his time in service. He was honorably discharged in November 2009.
After his time in the Army, Kirby returned to civilian life, working at the Juvenile Corrections Center in St. Anthony, Idaho for six years. Most recently he also worked for the Idaho Falls School District through the Compass Academy, teaching Law Enforcement/First Responders Academy to high school students. He was very passionate about working with the youth and enjoyed working at both institutions.
In his spare time, he loved cooking and grilling, hiking, hunting, shooting guns, wood working, camping, writing, and listening to good music.
